Walibi Holland

Of the parks in the Netherlands, Walibi is definitely the one aimed most squarely at thrill-seekers. What it lacks in theming it makes up for with a decent collection of coasters. Walibi Holland is located around an hour from Amsterdam, so a day trip is fairly easy to do.

BEST BITS
  • Although the park is not well-themed in general, Untamed, Xpress:Platform 13 and Lost Gravity have good theming.

  • Untamed and Goliath are both really good coasters, and it's worth visiting the park just for those two.

DOWN-SIDES
  • There is an almost total absence of healthy food options. Even the place which advertises salads does not actually have them any more.

  • We found the queue times on the app and boards to be inaccurate. In particular, the app often said rides were closed when they were in fact open.

TOP TIPS
  • All the rides have places to leave your bags whilst you ride.

  • It's best to start at either Untamed or Goliath.

  • Xpress: Platform 13 is right at the front at the park, and so has the smallest queue around lunchtime. There is also a sandwich bar next to it which is about as close to a healthy lunch as you will get.

  • The single rider queues are a good option here; especially for Goliath and Space Shot.

Our view on the rides

The stand-out rides at Walibi are Untamed and Goliath. Untamed is a new hybrid coaster, which has a steep first drop and a number of inversions. Some of the inversions leave you hanging and provide fantastic airtime. The ride is also really smooth and fast. Overall we really enjoyed it, and it's only let down slightly by having a few too many bunny-hops towards the end. As with other RMC hybrid coasters, the harness can be a bit uncomfortable for those with longer legs. The trick is to put your feet as far back as possible.

Goliath is an Intamin mega coaster. It has no inversions, but has some very good banked turns and airtime hills. We preferred it to most other Intamin coasters of this type because it focuses less on speed and more on airtime. If you get a choice, we recommend sitting towards the back because there is loads more airtime.

Of the other rides, Xpress:Platform 13 is worth going on as much for the queue as the actual ride. The coaster has a good launch but is otherwise quite rough. But the queue is really well-themed around an abandoned underground station. We were disappointed with Lost Gravity. Although there are some good inversions, the ride is surprisingly rough for a new coaster. This is especially the case in the outside seats.

Vekoma Suspended Looping Coasters are notoriously bad, but Condor was absolutely horrific. Even with modern vest harnesses the ride was still appallingly rough and uncomfortable. You should avoid this ride at all costs!
