Energylandia

Poland's largest theme park only opened its doors in 2014; but it is all the better for that. Rapid and ongoing expansion has meant the park already offers a very impressive selection of rides to suit most tastes. As most of the rides are new and feature the latest technology, Energylandia has already established itself as one of the best parks in Europe. Although less themed than some other parks in Europe, the park has clearly invested well in the quality of its coasters.

Being close to the popular and beautiful city of Krakow makes it a fairly accessible day out for tourists.

BEST BITS
  • The rides are all new. This means most of them have good harnesses and are smooth.

  • The owners of the park are clearly investing lots of money, with new rides and themed areas opening regularly.

  • Within the park there is a very wide range of different food options, giving a lot of choice over what you eat (not just the standard burger vs pizza decision).

  • There are lots of queue time boards around the park, making it easy to plan.

  • There is an excellent system for lockers where you pay a small, one-off fee and then have access to all lockers around the park all day. There are lockers near to every ride.

  • Being close to Krakow means that there is a wide range of places to stay in the local area.

  • Tickets are very good value; especially considering just how good the rides are! Parking is also much cheaper than most parks.

  • The car park is right by the entrance, so you don't have to walk far to get into the park.

  • There is a water park which is part of the overall park.

  • Our favourite ride is Zadra. There are a number of other good coasters.

DOWN-SIDES
  • Overall, the park is not particularly well themed. The newer sections (such as the Dragon Zone) are much better themed than other areas.

  • Although there are three big water rides, none of them are worth going on.

  • There are very few indoor rides or restaurants with inside seats. We found this surprising, given that the weather in Poland is not exactly year-round sun.

  • Most of the rides are similar to those at other parks; albeit newer. This means there is very little truly unique about the park.

TOP TIPS
  • It is definitely worth starting the day in the newer Dragon Zone or Aqualantis areas at the back of the park, to avoid queues.

  • Four of the main rides have free fast track tickets, which can be obtained from machines by the queue entrance.

  • The staff will not let you take personal items onto the rides, including glasses. It is easy to leave your bags in the lockers by the rides. In some cases, you can leave your bag in a locker and do multiple rides in that area.

  • We found that every ride in this park is better sat towards the front.

Abyssus

A multi-launched coaster. It is the main attraction in the park's newest area and is themed around the sea.

Our view: This is a good fun coaster that gets better as it goes along. The first launch comes without warning, but it is quite slow compared to the second which is where the ride really gets going. It's also quite long, which is a good thing. Overall, we really enjoyed this coaster.

Tips

  • Although better towards the front, it is fun no matter where you sit.

  • There is no front row queue, so down to chance.

  • It's a great ride to start the day as it’s right at the back of the park and not busy.

  • Unlike most rides, the lockers are actually in the ride station. That means it gets quite congested and confused. There are lockers by the Tidal Wave ride which are perfect for storing your things whilst you do all the rides in Aqualantis.

Zadra

Zadra

A hybrid coaster with steel track built on a wooden frame. The ride starts with an almost vertical drop, and features inversions as well as lots of high-speed corners. The cars have lap bars with extra restraints holding your legs.

Our view

It came as a massive surprise to us that we loved this ride, as we generally haven't been that keen on hybrid coasters. It is really smooth, and the first drop and the inversions are brilliant.

Tips:

  • It is better towards the front.

  • The harnesses are tight and can be a little uncomfortable for those with long legs. Try lifting your knees so that just your toes are on the floor. That way your knees are less likely to bang against the harness, and you will enjoy more airtime.

  • The queuing system requires you to split into either row 1, single rider or other. However, we found that people used the single rider queue to get on rows 2-4, and there was no need for their groups to split up. We suggest using this or the row 1 queue.

Hyperion

A hyper-coaster, and one of the highest in Europe.

Our view: We were disappointed with this ride. We love hyper-coasters, but this is not a good example of the form. It's made by Intermin rather than B&M, and compared to B&M hyper-coasters Hyperion is too fast to be smooth or feature enough airtime. That said, it is quite fun as long as you're sat on the inside seats towards the front. Otherwise, it is uncomfortably rough.Hayley really hated the outside seats, particularly at the back, and would not ride on it if these were the only options. Joe was okay with the outside seats, but much preferred the inside seats. It is like two completely different coasters.

Tips:

  • The ride has a strange seating configuration where, in a row of 4 seats, people on inside have their feet off the floor, but those on the outside seats do not. It is MUCH better on the inside seats.

  • We strongly suggest having nothing in your trouser pockets as the harness presses down heavily on them and will make the ride uncomfortable.

  • The queuing system requires you to split into either row 1, single rider or other. However, we found that people used the single rider queue to get on rows 2-4, and there was no need for their groups to split up. We suggest using this or the row 1 queue.

  • It's best to do in the middle of the day or towards the end of the day. This is because it is right by the park entrance, so is busiest first thing.

Hyperion

Formula Moya

A launched coaster themed around racing driving. The launch goes straight into a large loop, and the ride then features more inversions.

Our view: We enjoyed this ride. It's quite short and not as thrilling as Abyssus, but still good fun. The first lunch into the loop is excellent.

Mayan

A hanging coaster with multiple inversions and drops. The over-the-shoulder harnesses are the modern style with shoulder straps that fit each individual rider, rather than having a fixed solid frame.

Our view: Vekoma inverted coasters are notorious for being rough and uncomfortable. This one is slightly better than most simply because it has better harnesses so you don’t bang your head as you ride. However it is still rough and therefore not enjoyable.

Abyssus

Monster House

A slow car ride around an indoor set with a monster theme.

Our view: Not worth the time or effort. There is no interaction and the set is completely stationary.

Jungle Adventure

A standard rapids ride.

Our view: We found this ride dull. It has no theming and no interesting features.

Tips

  • Weirdly, this is the only ride they expect you to take your bag on with you. Yet it’s a water ride. But there are plenty of lockers nearby.

Speed

A water coaster with a metal track but multiple splash-downs. The ride starts with an elevator lift that takes the cars/boats up vertically.

Our view: We enjoyed the vertical lift and the first drop. Sadly after that it was not particularly fun, and was made even worse by the final splash down which has a really bad jolt as the boat hit the water. We both came off with sore backs.

Speed

Anaconda and Mayan

Anaconda

A typical boat ride, with two drops into water. The second is higher than the first.

Our view: This is a perfectly decent boat ride, but nothing special. The lack of theming makes it a bit disappointing.

Tips:

  • The queue lin goes through and alongside the ride. There are several splash zones, so watch out. The best thing is to keep an eye on the floor and avoid standing where it's wet.

Ekipa Light Explorers

A family boomerang coaster, where the ride traverses the entire track forwards before returning backwards.

Our view: Because the coaster is new, the ride is very smooth. It is also nicely built over a small artificial lake. But otherwise, nothing exciting.

Tidal Wave

A spinning disc ride. Riders sit on the disc facing outwards whilst it both spins and travels over a short, humped track.

Our view: These rides are always quite fun, and this is one of the best ones. It's a nice addition to the new Aqualantis section of the park.
