Toverland

Toverland is an attractive and well-themed park in south-east Netherlands. The majority of the attractions are aimed at the family market, and there are many areas which look great fun for young kids. However, there is also a decent selection of rides for older kids and adults. The level of theming makes it a very pleasant place to spend a day.

BEST BITS
  • The theming is excellent from the second you walk into the park. This includes music and shows, with a real attention to detail.

  • There is no fast track which means the queue times are accurate.

  • The park has a really nice feel. It is good fun and very well-maintained.

  • In addition to the rides, there is a fun house attraction (Villa Fiasko) which we really enjoyed. There are also lots of slides, swings and other fun attractions for little kids.

DOWN-SIDES
  • There is a lack of thrill rides. Even the largest coaster (Fenix) is more about airtime than pure thrills.

  • There are no queue time boards and none of the rides have queue times displayed at their entrances. Whilst they say there is an app, we could not find it on the Play Store.

  • It's not a park which is easily accessible by public transport; you need to drive there.

TOP TIPS
  • Start with Fenix; that tends to be quieter in the morning.

  • If you want to go on Troy then we suggest doing that at the end of the day as there will be less queue.

  • A significant part of the park is indoors, which is very handy if the weather is unpleasant. There as places to eat and sit inside.

  • There are no rides with lockers. You  either leave your bag in the ride station or take it on with you.

The entrance to Villa Fiasko - a good, but slightly too small, fun house

Our view on the rides

There are no high-thrill coasters in this park. Fenix is a good B&M winged coaster, which has some nice airtime moments. Unfortunately the first half of the ride is much better than the second and it somewhat loses interest towards the end. As with all winged coasters, it is smoother on the inside seat, although that is less pronounced here than on others. It is noticeably faster and a bit rougher sat towards the back.

Of the other coasters, Dwervelwind is a decent spinning coaster, comparable to rides like Spinball Whizzer. The queue moves quite slowly because there is only one ride car. The wooden coaster Troy is awful because it is so rough and jerky. We suggest you avoid it.

There is a launched motorbike coaster (Booster Bike) at the park, which looks good. Unfortunately it was closed for maintenance when we visited, so we've not been able to rate it.

The water rides (Expedition Zork and Djengu River) are well-themed and worth doing. Neither will leave you particularly wet. The Expedition Zork log flume features a backwards section, which is good fun.

We highly recommend Maximus Blitz Bahn. This is a unique, fun, attraction where you ride a small cart along a bobsleigh-style track. It's not particularly fast and doesn't go high; it's just really fun. We'd also recommend the fun house Villa Fiasko, which has some enjoyable obstacles to walk through (such as moving floors and stairs). It's only small, but what's in there is fun. There isn't usually much of a queue.
